Salkantay Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights

Day 1 CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA
We pick you up from your hostel between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. to drive to the town of Mollepata (2,850 meters) where we will make our first stop to buy some snacks and accommodate all of our equipment on mules and horses, once this is completed we begin our trek to Soraypampa (3800 m). We then trek between 3 to 4 hours to the point where we will have lunch (Cruzpata) and then continue trekking for 3 hours more until camp Soraypampa (3700msnm) where our support team will have our tents ready to relax and enjoy a very delicious dinner and then have a chat with our guide about the next day.

Day 2 SORAY PAMPA – COLPABAMBA
As soon as you get out of your tent you will feel the presence of the majestic snow-capped Salkantay Mountain. We will have breakfast at around 6:30 am to then begin our 8-9 hour hike, this day will be a good one since the views are stunning as we walk through different altitudes, entering a kind of canyon on the distinct slopes of Mount Salkantay (4600msnm).

We then descend to Huayracmachay for lunch where we can begin to see the seja de selva (or literally traduced, the eyebrow of the jungle) to then reach the camp CHAULLAY (3200masl) where we will set up camp.

Day 3 COLPABAMBA (CHAULLAY) – PLAYA – SANTA TERESA
Another nice day beginning at 08:00 am. On this day climatic conditions are more pleasant as we will be in the seja jungle and you can appreciate several fruit plantations and infusions of the area such as avocado, tea, coca and others, the walk will last approximately 4 hours. After this we take a lunch break and this will be the last day with our support staff (Horses and mules) as they will make their way back to the beginning of the walk. After saying goodbye to them we will continue on public transport to the town of Santa Teresa where we leave our things in the camp and head to the hot springs of Cocalmayo.

**Optional visit to the hot springs is of s /. 5.00 soles**

Day 4 SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES
After breakfast, we take the Inca trail that leads us for about 4 hrs until the archaeological site of Llactapata. From here we have the opportunity to see the Lost city of Machu Picchu and other mountains in the area. We will then walk for 2 hours downhill to Hidroelectrica Train station (Km 116), where we have our last camping lunch. Then continue walking for two and a half more hours to Aguas Calientes (2000 meters). Hostel accommodation in Aguas Calientes.

Day 5 AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO
Very early we will start the ascent to Machu Picchu to arrive just before dawn (the walk takes approx. 2 hours) the bus is optional and costs $ 12 per ticket each way, the first bus leaves at 5:30 am. If you bought your entrance pass to Huayna Picchu you will have the chance to climb this mountain (availability is controlled by the government and the Ministry of Culture, ask about availability at the time of your booking). In Machu Picchu you will have a two hour guided tour and after this you will have some time to explore this important Inca citadel on your own. We will then return to Aguas Calientes where you must be at the train station at least 30 minutes before your train leaves (the return train is subject to change so it’s better to be safe and on time). Once we arrive to Ollantaytambo there will be a bus waiting for us that will take us back to Cusco, leaving you at the Regocijo Square in the City Center of Cusco.
